japan by rail
02 - 13 september 2019
Over a period of many centuries, Japan has slowly developed from an ancient civilization into one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, but there’s a lot more to Japan than its urban landscapes. Japan offers exquisite scenery across the country for people to soak in its beauty; its garden-filled history is linked to the Shinto, Buddhist, and Taoist faiths, offering the visitor serenity and tranquillity. During our tour, we will explore the very best of Japan, travelling between cities on various different trains, including the Shinkansen Bullet Train. Our illuminating journey, encompassing the dynamic and fascinating allure of Japan, will take us from busy urban streets to historic icons, from city hotels to country inns. During our time together we will experience Tokyo, Hakone, Takayama, Kanazawa, Miyajima, Hiroshima and Kyoto. Accommodation will be in 4* hotels, most located quite close to railway stations to facilitate our train journeys, and in traditional Japanese inns or ryokans.
